Gold Coast Primary Short Course: OPEN for Registration

UPDATE: Gold Coast Primary Course 2019 - REGISTRATION OPEN
  • There has been a delay as the registration form was adapted from another form and so has some issues
  • These have not yet been resolved completely (as External IT provider has not done the changes yet)
  • BUT the form is functional and can be used for REGISTERING for the course
  • A few things to note though:
  • 1. Just select "1" in the 'ticket' section
  • 2. Where it says "GCHHS Department" just add the name of your hospital instead
  • 3. On the 2nd page an odd default value may appear in the Suburb/Town" field: Just change this to the correct one for you
  • 4. On the 2nd page, address just needs to be your hospital address (NOT your residential address)
  • 5. In the Payment section, if a message box appears, include your name and "Primary Course"
  • --------------------
  • For course queries, contact Natasha at: [email protected] (Anaes Department Admin)
  • The course is 2 weeks fulltime from Mon 4th - Fri 15th November 2019 (incl)
  • Course Convenor is Kerry Brandis
  • Cost is $AUD 550 (Mastercard or Visa accepted)
  • Payment is via a secure web payment facility
  • Registration LINK:

* The Gold Coast Primary Short Course is a full-time course running from
Monday to Friday for 2 consecutive weeks.
* The Program consists of a mix of presentations/tutorial sessions and exam practice sessions.
* The exam practice sessions involve THREE 150 question trial MCQ papers under 'exam conditions',
practice SAQs, and a practice viva session.

* Course program will be available closer to the course date.
* The course is held at the Gold Coast University Hospital (GCUH).

* Accommodation: The Gold Coast has a huge number of accommodation venues of different types.
Generally we recommend you book the venue of your choice online, and preferably close to the
Gold Coast Light Rail (anywhere in the coastal strip from Southport to Broadbeach)
This is a frequent (every 7.5 mins from 7am to 7pm) and efficient service, popular with uni students attending
Griffith Uni (across the road from GCUH), and with commuters to/from Brisbane (via Helensvale Rail
Station connection). To pay, you need to have a Go-card
-this works the same as a myki card (Melbourne) or an Opal card (Sydney).

* Parking: If you prefer to drive, there is a modern multi-storey Visitor Car-park
on-site at GCUH (but all-day parking costs are at commercial rates).

How to find full-text articles for free

If you are reading up on something and wish to find a recent article or review then searching Medline is the best first option. This will have the abstract (if there is one). If you wish to download the full-text pdf then there are several options:

  • Firstly: Medline. Some articles in Medline will be available in FREE full-text from Medline - just click the link on the page. (This is a minority of articles though)
  • Secondly, ANZCA Library. ANZCA fellows and trainees can login to the ANZCA Library. Most journals relevant to Anaesthesia are there (though surprisingly a few are missing).
  • Thirdly: Health Department. Another option is to access via the journal collection provided via your Health Department website. You need to be an employee and registered. In Queensland, this service in called CKN (for Clinical Knowledge Network) & you can register for off-site access.
  • Finally: Sci-Hub. A very useful and quick way to access many articles is via Sci-Hub. They are ' the first website in the world to provide mass & public access to research paper '. (Background info here. The easiest way to use this is to enter the article's PMID on their website, and click the Open button. As a pirate site the web address may change from time to time; currently it is at [1]. (Note: PMID is the Pubmed ID number for the article and for every article this is listed on the Pubmed abstract page for the article, so just search on Medline first to get the PMID). Not all articles will be there, and esp older articles will not be in their database.
